R/V Atlantis & HOV Alvin Research Cruise to Guaymas Basin Hydrothermal Vents

November 2008:
My first semester in graduate school was an incredible right place/right time situation. My advisor, Andreas Teske, had just received a grant to use the Alvin submersible to study hydrothermal vents in Guaymas Basin. As his new student I had the chance to visit some extremophiles at 2013 meters water depth in the Gulf of California, Mexico.
